Holly Hunter is an American producer and actress who has been recognized by her highly commendable performances in movies such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano and The Incredibles. The movie Piano earned her numerous awards including an Oscar. The successful actress began her career as an actor on the stage by performing in a myriad of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. Passionate about acting since her school days she played Helen Keller in a play in fifth grade. The mumps that she contracted left her deaf and blind in one ear. However, she didn't let this to hinder her ambitions of becoming an actor. In her early years, she was a drama student in the college level and then moved to New York City from Pittsburgh to achieve her goals. In a chance encounter she became stuck in an elevator with the playwright Beth Henley and the two collaborated in the Broadway Crimes of the Heart that became Hunter's debut. As she relocated into Los Angeles, Hunter tried to find film roles. The role of a supporting actress was secured for Swing Shift. Since then she has appeared in many television series and movies in a long career that spans more than 30 years. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star and the Women in Film Lucy Award.
